| Canvas, Water Color Paper, Fine Art Paper, and other specialty media
are not intended to be cut with auto cutter on your Epson 7600, 9600 and
10600 printer. The cutting blade will soon wear out and result in your
not being able to cut regular medias or worse, destroying them. I figure
that using your auto cutting blade on these media costs you over $1 per
cut- the blade could fail after about 40 cuts.
When printing on the types of media mentioned above you have a couple of cutting alternatives; 1. remove the media from the printer, put it on a table and cut it; 2. hack the media off with a scissor; 3. jury-rig some kind of straight edge cutter to cut the media straight as it comes out of the printer; or 4. buy the manual cutting system to make perfect and effortless cuts. All alternatives except the manual media cutting system leave much to be desired. 1. Removing the media is very time consuming and although the cut can be straight, when loading and unloading the media you run the risk of damaging it. 2. I speak with personal experience when I say that cutting it with a scissor is a pain in the neck. Unless you are extremely careful your cut will be crooked. When the print head tries to find the front edge of the media it will ask you to reload it. At that point it needs a straighter/ 90 degree edge and it means that you will have to re-cut it. Time consuming and wasteful of media. 3. Jury-rigging a solution might work OK. How to make it all happen right, with regularity, is the trick and fortunately Epson has engineered a real solution so that you won't have to mess around trying to figure one out. 4. The manual media cutting system attaches directly to four screw holes and a mount on the front of the printer. It lifts up out of the way when not needed and drops down into cutting position with ease. It provides perfectly straight, 90 degree cuts and the cutter does not touch the surface of the printer. The rotary cutting blade is made for cutting these heavier materials and has a good useful life. In short, if you use these specialty media, the manual media cutting system will pay for itself in savings of media and time.
