With EFI Colorproof, you output your contract proofs by yourself — on standard and therefore cost-efficient inkjet or laser output systems. That way, you gain flexibility, autonomy and an outstanding proof quality in an affordable fashion.

EFI Colorproof is the contone proofing system for the production environment. It combines three components into an easy-to-use digital proofing solution:

Please Note: Like most RIPs, Colorproof needs a computer to run on. We recommend a robust computer with a 1+Ghz speed processor, minimum 512 MB of ram and a 100GB hard drive. The operating system we recommend is Windows 2000 Server (2000 server is a very stable platform and supports both PCs and MACs right out of the box.) We can configure a software and hardware bundle for you.

A Quick Product Review

As a dealer of digital proofing and wide format printers for more than a decade we have tested and sold many different RIP brands. This includes, among others, RIPs from EFI, Wasatch, ColorBurst, Onyx and Colorbyte. For RIP software in its price range (under $5,000) we judge EFI Colorproof to be the highest quality RIP on the market. The reasons are as follows:

High-Quality Postscript processing and stochastic screening, together which, produce consistently accurate and clean images.
High level of color accuracy. The only SWOP Certified RIP in its price range. A good set of tools and interface for an accurate ICC Color Workflow. Additional tools to determine media ink limits and linearize and re-linearize the printer (keep it producing accurate color over time).
Print Queues and hot folders that, once learned, provide an easy, reliable and consistent workflow.

The only drawback we find with the Colorproof RIP is that it is a bit more complex to learn. Because it does more and has more functions than many RIPs, Colorproof is a bit more difficult than other RIPs to set up and become familiar with. You should also know that Colorproof, although it does allow you to measure a new media's ink limits and linearize your printer, it does not contain profiling software for building ICC Profiles for new media. If you have this requirement, we can build your profiles, or it is easy enough to purchase a 3rd party profiling package (Monaco Profiler) for use in conjunction with Colorproof.

As with most of the RIPs we sell, we highly recommend that you purchase installation and training.

Special Notes for Upgrading

There are special prices for those of you who own Colorproof and want to upgrade. As of this 5.1 release there are changes in the base linearization and profile connector files. If you have existing ones, you will be best served to redo them for the new version.
